Governor Yahaya Bello unveils Platini Sports Management's ace manager Folabi Ojekunle "Foley" as new Kogi United technical adviser

The Executive Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, alongside Kogi United Chairman Alhaji Abdulmalik Dolly unveiled Coach Folabi Ojekunle as new Kogi United's Technical Adviser in Lokoja on Friday.

The mini unveiling ceremony, which was held at the Governor's office, had key members of the club and other football stakeholders in the state in attendance.

It will be recalled that the club confirmed the former Udala FC manager's appointment some days back, hours after signing a two-year management deal with Abuja based Sports agency, Platini Sports Management.

As he is fondly called, coach “Foley”, thanked the Governor for his support and the opportunity given to him to lead the team at this time.

"I want to use this medium to thank the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Adoza Bello for his support, also the CSO Alhaji Abdulmalik Sulaimon for the role he played and the Kogi United management board led by Alhaji Abdulmalik Issah Dolly for the trust and believe they have in giving me this job"

"It's a plus to have the executive governor of Kogi State unveil me today as the technical adviser of Kogi Utd, Confluence Queens and all state teams."

Speaking after the unveiling, Coach Afolabi talked about the ambition and goal of the club ahead of the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season, the former ABS FC gaffer said he’s optimistic about the chances of his technical team to lead the side to the NPFL for the first time in their history.

"I am very happy to be reckoned with this state and its ambition, with a set goal of gaining promotion to the NPFL. We are going to work hard, put in our best and make sure we do everything humanly possible to get the NPFL ticket", he said.

"One of the reasons why we have to do that is, Kogi United have never played in the NPFL before, so we are going to see how we can try to break that jinx and we also have a sport loving governor who is ready to do anything to support Kogi United", he concluded.

Foley, who had previously worked as an assistant coach at Babanawa FC between 2003 and 2004 before moving to Magate FC in 2005 as head coach, isn't an unknown name in the lower division of Nigerian football.

In addition, after spending twelve months as IT Coach at Premier League side Tottenham between 2011 and 2012, the 46-year-old had a stint at Northern Ireland with Aquinas FC from 2012 to 2015. He came back to Nigeria to work briefly with ABS FC before returning to Spurs in a scouting capacity for a year in 2018.

Coach Foley will now replace coach Tunde Abdulrahman at Kogi United, with the hope of changing the club's fortunes when they finally get to play in the second tier this season.
